One of the fastest growing sports discipline in the country, Armwrestling, has received another push in its quest to develop the sport throughout the country and on the continent.
State broadcaster, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation through its digital sports television platform, GTV Sports+, has partnered with the Ghana Armwrestling Federation to telecast Armwrestling events.
This is in line with the Federation’s mandate of promoting and developing the now known as the popular sport in the country.
GTV Sports+ would start this weekend and every Saturday broadcast armwrestling matches/bouts at 7pm (1900hrs).
Speaking in an interview with the President of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation, Mr Charles Osei Asibey, he told www.armwrestlingghana.com that “the essence of this partnership is to promote the sport and also encourage participation among Ghanaians”.
He explained that the broadcast shall include; World Championship Bouts, the World Armwrestling League, Africa Championships and many local Armwrestling events.
He also added that this would also serve as a platform to usher in the 2019 Armwrestling season which he believes would be more exciting for the patrons of the sport.
Mr Osei Asibey also added that there would be training programmes for athletes, referees and other related departments of the sport to build their capacities.
He acknowledged the support given to the Federation by the various corporate bodies and assured them of a much better collaboration next season.
