The Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) has expressed surprise at the seeming overlook of sports during the State of the Nation Address (SONA) last Tuesday.
President Nana Akuffo Addo gave his maiden SONA to Parliament highlighting the prevailing state of affairs as well as policy measures to improve them.
But in a statement released in Accra and signed by the President of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation, Mr Charles Osei Asibey, the silence of the 15-page address on the current state of sports in general and specific disciplines in particular was rather surprising.
” The general perception out there is that sports is of less importance to governments and we do not want to believe that will also be the case under H.E Nana Addo’s regime”, the statement said.
The statement however expressed the hope that the next fiscal policy and financial statement (the budget) to be presented by the new Minister of Finance will hilight the militating challenges of our various sporting disciplines and profess appropriate financial and policy directions to revamp the sector.
“As a sports person in his youthful days, we have the strongest believe that Mr President will do everything possible for sports development in general and Armwrestling in particular”, the statement added.
